Report of tourist flowBREAKING NEWS: The Central Bank did not publish yet the report of tourist flow in Dominican Republic for February 2009.
In January, it decreased by -2.37% compared to the same month in 2008. The increase in the Canadian tourists prevented that the figures were worse.
In Spain, the more successful European country after France regarding the tourist matter, the arrival of the tourists decreased by 13.1% compared to the same period of 2008.
According to the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, during the first two months of the year, the British transmitting market accumulated a fall of 22.1% and the German market a fall of 11.1%.
This dramatic tendency to fall is found on all the transmitting markets which have less tourists than last year, announces Público, the Spanish newspaper which published these data.
For the year 2009, to revitalize the situation of the sector, Spanish hotel keepers proposed a dialogue and a public-private co-management between the Government, the Communities, the town halls and the company managers as well as the emulation of internal tourism.
Other proposals were made like credit facilities for the viable tourist companies, municipal investment, and increase in the flexibility of work to ensure new more effective models and with greater reciprocal commitments.
What are thinking the Dominican hotel keepers ? Do they bet on internal tourism ? Will the Dominican Government grant facilities like it is the case in Argentina ? How to attract more Canadians, Americans, French and Germans ? What to make in order they come here to spend their holidays and not elsewhere ?
These figures are alarming. Let‘s hope that when we realize there, that it won’t be too late.
