BREAKING NEWS: Río San Juan.- The Province María Trinidad Sánchez welcomes soon the Playa Grande Surfing Championship 2009 which is the first of the season 2010 National Surf Circuit, which will take place on the Playa Grande Rio San Juan from 11 to 13 December from 8:30am until 4:30pm.

With this event, the Dominican Federation of Surf (FEDOSURF) seeks to support the promotion of qualities possessed by the community of Río San Juan in sports tourism.

More than fifty surfers from all over the country will participate in the championship, in different terms and categories.

Participants compete for the top spots of the National Surf Circuit 2010, whose champions will have the opportunity to be part of national teams participating in FEDOSURF hemispheric and global events.

The championship will be starting at the Café Paris in Rio San Juan, with a welcome concert to all athletes and fans of surf, Friday 11th, 7pm.

The opening event of the season will have a Prize Money of RD $ 30,000.00 for the winners of the Open, junior and Mini-Junior categories in Surf and Body board, and of course, Expression Session.

The Government began the asphalting plan in María Trinidad Sánchez

BREAKING NEWS: Cabrera.- The government, through the Minister of Public Works and Communications (SEOPC) began the asphalting plan in María Trinidad Sánchez province, where more than seven kilometers are covered with several layers of asphalt.

The work began at a ceremony held in the municipality of El Factor, with Governor Arístides Victoria Yed.

In the municipalities of El Factor, Nagua, Cabrera and Río San Juan, the main lines will be paved, and sidewalks and gutters constructed. Mr. Yed expressed satisfaction with the management of President Leonel Fernández, which provides answers to the populations needs.

This project is part of the paving plan developed by the Minister of Public Works to be implemented throughout the country.

BREAKING NEWS: Cabrera.- The great event Playa Grande Surfing Championship 2009 ended happily in Rio San Juan, María Trinidad Sánchez province, held from December 11th to the 13th with the assistance of more than 40 athletes of different surfing modalities who received medals, trophies and cash in front of an enthusiastic audience enjoying the event and the 2 concerts and dj’s, during the 3 days event, with the following results:

MINI JUNIOR SURFING CATEGORY:

  • 1- Carlos García (Río San Juan) won RD $500.00

  • 2- Alex Encarnación (Las Terrenas) won RD $500.00

  • 3- Daniel Santana (Cabarete) won RD $500.00

  • 4- Daniel Barbarito Santana (Cabarete) won RD $500.00

JUNIOR SURFING CATEGORY:

  • 1- Eduar Santana (Cabarete) won RD $1,000.00

  • 2- Derek Gómez (Río San Juan) won RD $1,000.00

  • 3- Oscar García (Río San Juan) won RD $1,000.00

  • 4- Bastián Barbero (Las Terrenas) won RD $1,000.00

OPEN BODYBOARD CATEGORY:

  • 1- Martín Pérez (Nagua) won RD $4,000.00

  • 2- Edwin Then (Nagua) won RD $3,000.00

  • 3- Julfrien Sims (Puerto Plata) won RD $2,000.00

  • 4- José Manuel Henríquez (Sosúa) won RD $1,000.00

Surfing in the Open Category results were tied at 1/4 finals by all registered, because of the weather conditions, there was insufficient tidal waves and too dry to do the show. The 1/4 finalists were:

Mario Gomez (Puerto Plata), Noah Purington (Hawaii), Peter Campusano (Puerto Plata), Luis Sebastian (San Cristobal), Dani Lobaton (Las Terrenas), Eduar Santana (Cabarete), Angel Comprés (Cabarete), Marcos Antonio Saint Hilaire (Santo Domingo), Junior Gomez (Rio San Juan), Robert Flores (San Juan River), Amin Bueno (Puerto Plata), Robinson Liriano (Rio San Juan), Jesmarin Bridge (Cabarete) and Chichi Peralta (Rio San Juan).

These were awarded to RD $ 1100.00 each, for a total of RD $ 14,000.00 in prize money.

FEDOSURF welcomes and congratulates athletes from around the country showed up in the championship, appreciates and recognizes the community and sponsors of our contest in Río San Juan, Cabrera and Nagua.
